Mangalore: Violence due to Hindu, Muslim communication gap: Iqbal Ansari - Images

Mangalore Oct 15: The recent violence that rocked Dakshina Kannada district was due to communication gap between Muslims and Hindus, opined Labour Minister Iqbal Ansari.

Addressing a press meet here on Saturday, he said the violence could have been averted if there was proper communication between both the the communities.

He said that he will urge Chief Minister to initiate action against those police personnel who have misbehaved with women and children in the riot hit areas of the district.

The names of the police personnel will be submitted to the CM for further action.

"People have faced lot of problems from the police. In the violence hit areas, people have not faced any problem from a Hindu or a Muslim but from the police officials. Police have assaulted innocent people in the region,"he said.

Mr Ansari said that the government can not be threatened by such untoward incidents in the district.

Those culprits belonging to both the communities will be punished. No culprit will be left scot free.

To a query, he said that he will submit his observation report to the Chief Minister and Home Minister at the earliest.

Compensation

The district has incurred a huge loss due to the violence, he said and added that he will urge the Chief Minister to pay extra compensation along with the loss incurred by the victims.

Sensitive

Stating that communal issue is very sensitive, Mr Ansari said the people of both the communities should be brought together. People should inculcate a feeling of brotherhood and peace.

The police and the people's representatives should hold more and more peace meetings in the violence hit regions to avoid any untoward incidents in the future. The additional forces should remain in the district till the peace is completely restored in the district, he added.

On the allegation against MLA's son and District-in-Charge Minister of provoking violence in the district, Mr Ansari clarified that neither MLA's son nor District-in-Charge Minister B Nagaraj Shetty are involved in the violence.

"No victim has mentioned about any politician. Without any base, we can not blame anyone." MLA N Yogish Bhat, JD(S) State Vice-President J S Noronha and former MLA K Jayaram Shetty were present.
